Knock It Off Eli!!

Seem's like we have been saying this a lot over the last few days. This is a phrase we use when he starts to desat. Alarms go off, which is a terrifying, stressful, and annoying sound that I haven't gotten used to even after 41 days in the NICU. Anytime his oxygen saturation dips below 89% the alarms go off, even if it's just for a second. Lately they have been going off a lot more because we are asking more from him. The breast feeding attempts are just wearing him out. By the end of the day he is exhausted, and most of the time he's not even doing much of anything with the breastfeeding. But the more tired he gets, the harder it is for him to breathe. Its nothing to be super concerned, most of the time he is at 100% but he dips down and then pops right back up. It's something he has to grow out of and something we have to start pushing him with to build up his strength and stamina. Next week we are going to try bottle feeding as well. Regardless of how much progress we make with breastfeeding, he is going to need to bottle feed when he leaves here to get meds and he wont have the stamina for exclusive breastfeeding. So we'll do both when he comes home.
So our days are just lots of cuddling and working on the feedings. 4lbs 9.9oz. Here's some pics!

  1. Hey, so glad you're feeling better, Andrea! Eli is really growing like a weed now. I'll be praying specifically for his strength and stamina to increase so y'all can go home soon! The pictures are great; he does look so cuddly, too! Love y'all!
