Day 3 Update

Today has been a pretty good day for Eli. Daddy spent the night with him again, as he has been every night since he was born. I came in to the NICU and IMMEDIATELY the doctor came to give us an update. The care we have had has been amazing. I was here for 10 mins and we got updates and plans for the day from 2 doctors and a PA. Plus the nurses have been so so so amazing as well . The lil guy is in good hands for sure.

The baby is on CPAP which keeps his lungs inflated but is requiring no extra oxygen. He hasn't had any episodes of apnea in two days. The plan for the day was to get 2ccs breast milk every 6 hours. He has an OG tube which is a tube going from his mouth into his belly. This tube acts to vent air from the CPAP and also how we get him his milk. Before each feeding they are able to check the contents of his belly to see how much of his previous feeding he has digested. At his 9am feeding they pulled up some nasty green stuff from his belly which they weren't too happy about. So they decided to give him 1cc instead of 2 as a precaution. At noon he had digested everything, no green stuff! He was given a suppository to help him poop, with good effects :)

I was able to hold him for over an hour and a half. It was so awesome. I get to hold him once per day. Clearly its my favorite time of day. Eli loves to sleep on his belly. He is not a happy camper when you put him on his back. He has a super good grasp and will hold onto my pinky when they do any sort of unfun thing to him like change his diaper or put a new OG tube. He also will try to hold on to his lines and starts to yank on them a lil. He also has been sucking on his binky pretty well. Daddy has been so good taking care of Eli, asking all the questions to the doctors and nurses, learning everything about all his tubes and lines and how everything works. He says by the time hes done he's gonna be able to be a NICU nurse. He's doing an amazing job taking care of me helping out washing bottles and has changed Eli's diaper more than once  =O

Right now we are waiting for his nine oclock feeding. He's due for another 2cc's but first we have to see how he did with the 2 he got at 3 this afternoon.  As long as he did ok, tomorow we'll try for 2 ccs q3 hrs.

Our family has been amazing. Jon's parents were here Sat right after the delivery. His brother came Sunday. His mom made us yummy dinner and chocolate chip cookies (my fave!) and has been running back n forth for us. Dee and Oma have been running back forth from the house cooking and laundrying and doing lots and just being there for everything we need.  Soo happy that Oma is here and gets to be here and see Eli. Pete n Kristin were here on Saturday. Dad's been here Sat n Sunday and will see him tomorrow. Jon's parents are coming back this weekend and on and on we go. We are so blessed!  We really appreciate everyone's support and prayers from our church family in Newtown to our extended church families in South Windsor, Manchester, and Ormond Beach. To all our friends and family everywhere we really appreciate everyone's prayers (keep them coming!), well wishes, and kind words.

 Happy on his belly
 Not happy on his back
Happy chillin with his mama :)
